The SCJC was established in May 2013 and replaced the previous Court of Session and Sheriff Court Rules Councils. In addition to preparing rules for the Scottish civil courts, it provides advice and recommendations to the Lord President and the Scottish Ministers on the future development of the civil justice system as a whole. For more information on the Council’s priorities and work, see the current Annual Report 2024/25 and Annual Programme 2025/26.
Further information on the functions and powers of the Council can be found here.
Appointed members hold office for three years. See the SCJC website for information on current membership.
The Lord President, The Right Hon Lord Pentland, Chair of the Council, said:
“This is an important time in the development of civil court rules with the civil justice system exploring new ways of working. It is vital that the Council continues to have the necessary expertise to take these reforms forward. I would encourage anyone with the right experience and knowledge to apply for a position.”
The deadline for applications is 22 August 2025.
Further information and application forms are available here.
The SCJC welcomes feedback on any aspect of court rules. Please email your comments to the Secretariat.
