Sheriff Frances McCartney was formally appointed to the Council on 27 September 2023.

Sheriff McCartney was appointed as a summary sheriff in 2016 and a sheriff in 2018.  Prior to her appointment on the bench she worked in a number of small high street practices, undertaking a variety of civil work including children’s referrals, public and environmental law, commercial and family work.  She is a graduate of the University of Strathclyde and is a co-author of A Practical Guide to Public Law Litigation in Scotland.  

Her tenure on Council will run for a period of three years.
