The SCJC is seeking new members in the first major recruitment exercise since it was launched.
Positions are now open for a solicitor member, two consumer representative members and two Lord President members (discretionary appointments which can be made by the LP).
The deadline for applications is 5 pm on Friday, 1 April 2016.
The SCJC was established in May 2013 and replaced the previous Court of Session and Sheriff Court Rules Councils. In addition to preparing rules for the Scottish civil courts, it provides advice and recommendations to the Lord President and the Scottish Ministers on the future development of the civil justice system as a whole. For more information on the Council’s priorities and work, see the the Annual Programme for 2015/16.
Appointed members hold office for three years and the tenure period for the Council’s first members is due to expire in May 2016. See the SCJC website for information on current membership.
The Lord President, The Right Hon Lord Carloway, Chair of the Council, said:
“This is an important time in the development of civil court rules with the introduction of simple procedure and other ground breaking reforms. It is vital that the Council continues to have the necessary expertise to take these reforms forward. I would encourage anyone with the right skills and knowledge who wishes to make a difference to the civil justice system in Scotland to apply for a position.”
